When I was a kid, you wouldn't be seen dead walking into a local charity shop to look for clothing because you'd get made fun of. I didn't understand why my classmates who were probably in the same economic class as me would make fun of me when I admitted that sometimes we'd go to Oxfam.
These days with the financial crisis going on, everyone is out for a bargain whether it's in a thrift store or online apps like Ebay or Ali Express.
I do it regularly. As I'm a grown assed adult, I don't care what people think of my methods.
I've found some interesting stuff in Thrift stores! Half a dozen Barbies , dresses and cardigans. Clothes are expensive, I have 2 kids and most of the money make goes into their clothes, Bill's rent, food and stuff! I'm lucky if I get something for me.
I've found some cute things on second hand sites and apps like desigual dresses not not just for me but for my kids as well.
But that's not the only place I look.
I found a page in Madrid where they give away stuff. Free stuff. Ever since I had ti reduce my hours at work because it was the only way I could do mornings without putting my kid in daycare, it's been a life saver. I've gotten nappies, unused baby formulas, baby food, baby clothes, unused high end make up, kitchen appliances, accessories. I've got non perishable foods because people were moving out. I got an expensive high chair that my daughter only used 4 times and a baby carrier before giving it to someone else!
The only snag is that sometimes it's so far away but if I can get something for free I will.
I look around religiously for bargains and free stuff every day as it was a job.
People think I'm insane, SO use to call me a scavenger but soon shut up because the stuff I was bringing home was useful. Once I even bought home dinner because a girl was giving away the contents of her freezer.
Just recently I got a yoga mat, a hair straightener and a scientific calculator for nothing!
I found a way to survive and maybe save a little money for the things I can't get a bargain on or for free!
I've been called alot of things but I've just learned to be a bit smarter and more resourceful that's all.
I'm really into saving as much as I can and getting the most out of €1.
